Chapter 01
The small repairs that are worth the call
A dripping faucet is almost never a faucet problem, it is a worn cartridge or a bad washer inside the faucet, and it is usually a fast fix once we are there. The reason it is worth calling sooner rather than living with it is that a drip that seems minor is water running down the drain around the clock, and the fix does not get any cheaper by waiting. Faucet replacement comes into the picture when the body itself has corroded, when parts for an old faucet are no longer available, or when a homeowner is just ready for something new.
The same logic applies to a running toilet. A flapper that will not seal, a fill valve that will not shut off, these are parts that fail on a schedule and cost more in water over a few months than the part itself costs to replace. We would rather fix the small thing on a Tuesday than have someone lose a weekend to a faucet that will not stop.

Toilets: repair, and when it is time to replace
Most toilet calls are the internal tank hardware, a flapper, a fill valve, a flush valve seal, and those get repaired in one visit. The call that needs faster attention is a toilet that rocks at the base. A loose toilet is working the wax ring underneath every time someone sits down, and once that seal breaks, water gets under the toilet and into the subfloor without anyone seeing it happen until the floor itself is soft. Catching a rocking toilet early is a wax ring and a re-seat. Catching it late is subfloor repair on top of the toilet work.
Replacement makes sense when the bowl or tank is cracked, when a toilet is old enough to use far more water per flush than a current model, or when a homeowner is remodeling the bathroom anyway and wants something new to match.
Chapter 03
Disposals, spigots, and the tap that gets left charged
Garbage disposal repair and installation covers the range from a disposal that hums but will not turn, usually a jam that clears with a reset, to a unit old enough that the motor itself has failed and needs replacing. Outside spigots fail in their own particular way in this climate: a hose left connected over winter keeps water sitting in the spigot body, that water freezes, and the spigot or the pipe just behind the wall splits. We repair and replace spigots regularly for exactly that reason, and disconnecting hoses before the cold comes is the cheapest prevention there is.
Shower repair falls in this same bucket when it is a valve, a diverter, or a fixture issue rather than a full remodel, and it is worth mentioning separately from a bathroom remodel because most shower calls are one part failing, not a reason to redo the whole shower.
Filtration, appliance hook-ups, and reading a pressure problem
Water filtration system installation and appliance installation round out this list, whole-house filtration for water quality, and the plumbing connections a dishwasher, washing machine, or refrigerator ice maker needs done correctly the first time. Both are additions to a home's plumbing rather than repairs to it, and both are worth doing right since a bad appliance connection tends to show up as a leak later rather than a problem on day one.
Water pressure issues are diagnostic work before anything else. Low pressure at a single fixture usually points at that fixture, a clogged aerator or a failing cartridge. Low pressure at every fixture in the house points somewhere upstream, the main line, a pressure regulator, or a supply issue that has nothing to do with any one faucet. We start by figuring out which one it is before we touch a single fixture, because fixing the wrong end of that problem wastes a visit.
